Attacks on mobile core networks were rare in the past because mobile networks are conventionally closed. Besides, the radio interception devices are usually expensive. However, as 4G and 5G networks are moving towards all IP technology, they are adopting a service-based architecture, which leads to the accelerated evolution of its attack surface and attack tools, as well as the booming of the Open Radio Access Network (ORAN). Seeing the increase of attacks on mobile networks, we will be sharing a few case studies in this session about how mobile networks can be compromised, in addition to two fuzz testing tools specifically designed for 5G.
