Dr. Shin-Ming Cheng received his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Information Engineering from National Taiwan University. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. He has also served as the Acting Director-General and Deputy Director-General of the Administration for Cyber Security, Ministry of Digital Affairs.
Recently, he has directed the Advanced Information Security Summer School (AIS3) program, sponsored by the Ministry of Education. In addition to organizing the annual AIS3 summer camp, the AIS3 Junior summer camp for junior and senior high school students, and practical cybersecurity competitions such as MyFirstCTF and the AIS3 EOF, he is dedicated to promoting cybersecurity awareness and cultivating communities/clubs through initiatives like the AIS3 Club and 3SIA cybersecurity games. Through these efforts, he has trained over a thousand cybersecurity talents. Since 2018, Dr. Cheng has led student teams to compete in the DEFCON CTF Finals, the world cup of hacking.
Dr. Cheng's research focuses primarily on telecommunications network security and IoT system security, and he has recently expanded his work into artificial intelligence security. His team's research achievements have been recognized with Best Paper Awards at IEEE Trustcom 2020, CISC 2020/2021, and TANET 2021.
