3-D Secure is an additional layer of authentication used in online transactions to verify the identity of the cardholder. When a cardholder makes an online purchase at a merchant that has enabled 3-D Secure, the authentication process redirects the cardholder to the secure page hosted by the card issuer, requiring the cardholder to verify their identity (such as SMS OTP, face ID, etc.) to prevent unauthorized use of the card.
The EMV 3-D Secure Protocol was developed by EMVCo, and used by Visa, Mastercard, JCB and other major credit card schemes. HiTRUST actively invests in the research and development of 3-D Secure products. In 2020, we were the first in the world to pass the 2.2 version certification, providing our customers with the latest and most complete solutions.
Today, the latest version 2.3 has been released. This revision extends the application of 3D verification to IoT devices. In the future, people can look forward to completing secure 3-D Secure credit card transactions in smart appliances and smart cars. In addition, the newly launched SPC (Secure Payment Confirmation) transaction uses FIDO 2 technology to replace the OTP, which can effectively prevent Man-in-the-Middle attack where the OTP is intercepted and stolen from the cardholder. HiTRUST has completed the technical development of version 2.3 and integrated 3-D Secure products with FIDO solution. When the card schemes publicly support the 2.3 standard, we can provide one-stop comprehensive services for global customers.
