Building on its heritage of expertise in hardware real-time encryption solutions, Enova Technology announced the launch of the F140-2 Level 2 validated TCG OPAL2.0 single chip solution- X-Wall® MX+ xN crypto module, a SATA generation 3 hardware crypto module (HCM) with a supercharged hardware AES CBC/XTS 256-bit engine capable of performing 600 megabytes per second that protects data privacy and confidentiality, and the built-in TCG OPAL2.0 firmware that empowers the OPAL2.0 capability. The solution is independent from all drive sizes and geometries. The chip’s primary function is to encrypt data-at-rest at SATA physical layer at 6 gigabits per second, meanwhile, observes all OPAL2.0 commands. That being said, the chip can be used to encrypt data-in-transit via specifically engineered API (Application Programming Interface) at the transport layer or higher up.
Unlike software encryption that relies on CPU and other system resources to operate which may expose weakness in terms of security operations, the X-Wall® MX+ xN can independently perform chip level authentication and cryptographic operations that completely eliminates security weakness on all software encryption products. Data corruption as usually associated with using software encryption can never occur when the X-Wall® MX+ xN is in use for it operates on the protected SATA command protocol layer that is shielded from errors caused by command abort or incomplete due to event such as power interruption during operations.
Last but not the least, Enova offers host OPAL controller that can be used to control the OPAL2.0 compliant disk drive, such as an OPAL2.0 capable USB storage device. One must authenticate the X-Wall® MX+ xN via host OPAL2.0 commands prior to enabling its encryption capability.
